Welcome to our Hostel on the lush,
green island of Biskops-Arnö

The STF Youth Hostel situated at the Nordic Folk High School on Biskops-Arnö is open from 24 May to 22 August. At other times during the year subject to availability.

The island of Biskops-Arnö in Lake Mälaren hosts the remains of a bishop’s castle from the 13th Century. It is 10km to the nearest town Bålsta, 20km to Enköping, 40km to Uppsala and 60km to Stockholm.

Our visitors can enjoy marked hiking trails, a swimming jetty and centuries-old oak trees. The island’s farmlands have a fascinating history as do the listed buildings dating from both the Middle Ages and the 17th and 18th Centuries. The 14th Century Gothic vaults are a must for every visitor to Biskops-Arnö.

Canoes and bicycles can be rented and you are welcome to borrow a barbecue. There are two permanent fireplaces, one situated high on ‘Fortress Hill’ and the other near the swimming jetty on the other side of the island.

There are lots of grassy areas ideal for childrens’ games. As well as hiking through the beautiful countryside you can play the ancient game of ‘kubb’ (also known as ‘The King’s Game’), softball or outdoor chess.

There is plenty to do in the surrounding area.

Why not visit the Baroque style Skokloster Castle, Sjö Castle, Ekolsund, the beautiful parks and gardens of Enköping, the nature reserve at Hjälstaviken, or Åbergs Museum. There are also several golf courses nearby.

The hostel has 100 beds in 90 rooms and a newly-renovated kitchen for self-catering.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served in the school dining-room
(with the exception of 21-27 June and 5-25 July).
