Poetry in practice
Weekend course 9. – 11. October 2026
A course on writing and reading poetry in English.
In this poetry writing course, we will meet in the unique natural surroundings of Biskops Arnö to deepen our understanding of the possibilities of language.
Together, we will explore different ways to think about and create poetry. Following the traditions and pedagogy of författarskolan, we will make use of generative writing exercises, close readings, group discussions and the workshop.
We will read the work of notable English-language poets from a variety of traditions, styles and practices including Bernadette Mayer, Terrance Hayes, Lucie Brock-Broido, and Fady Joudah.
The core elements of poetry such as form, imagery and voice will be encountered alongside experimentation and alternative approaches. Above all, we will prioritize focused time for writing.
All are welcome, from published poets to motivated beginners – or those who just want to improve their English.
